Request from Father Miguel Lull to Viceroy Branciforte, 1798 Jan 24.

Because of the loss of seven Franciscan missionaries for personal reasons and the murder of one, Julian Lopez, in 1797, the Father Guardian of the Apostolic College of San Fernando, Miguel Lull, asks the Viceroy Branciforte to use his powers to persuade Diego de Borica, governor of the Californias, and Fermin Lasuen, President of the California missions to approve his selection of eight replacements. Any delay would be detrimental to the spiritual aid of the missions.
